MEET THE FRIARS

Fr. Philip Neri Powell, O.P.

Prior

Fr. Philip Neri Powell, O.P. is originally from the Mississippi Delta and a convert to the Catholic Church. He completed his Doctorate in Literature from Ole Miss in 2000. He did his work in theology and philosophy at Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis and Blackfriars Hall, Oxford University. Ordained a priest in 2005, Fr. Philip Neri served as a campus minister and adjunct professor of English and theology at the University of Dallas. Upon completion of this assignment in 2008, he moved to Rome and spent three years completing a license in the philosophy of science at The Angelicum. In 2011, he returned to the U.S. to serve for one year as parochial vicar of St. Dominic Church in New Orleans. In 2012, he became the Director of Homiletics, Professor of Philosophy, and a priest-formator at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. Fr. Philip Neri loves to cook/eat, read and write poetry, paint, and watch woodworking videos on Youtube.


Fr. Carl Joseph Paustian, O.P.

Subprior

Fr. Carl Paustian, O.P. is a Dominican Friar of the Province of St. Martin de Porres. He was ordained to the priesthood in 2018. Originally from Houston, Fr. Carl is a graduate of Texas A&M University and Aquinas Institute of Theology. His first three years as a priest, he served as the Parochial Vicar of St. Elizabeth University Parish in Lubbock, TX, and as Chaplain to Raider Catholic, the Catholic Student Center at. Fr. Carl was appointed Director of Vocations on July 1, 2021, and currently lives at St. Albert the Great Priory in Irving, Texas.

Fr. Jude Siciliano, O.P.

Fr. Jude Siciliano, O.P. was ordained in 1969. For fourteen years he taught homiletics at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA, and is a past president of the Catholic Association of Teachers of Homiletics. He was a volunteer chaplain at San Quentin Prison and was actively involved with "People of Faith Against the Death Penalty," in North Carolina. He preaches parish retreats and also travels throughout the country giving preaching workshops.

Fr. Brian Pierce, O.P.

Fr. Brian J. Pierce, O.P.  grew up in Texas but has spent twenty-one years of his Dominican life outside of the United States – mostly in Latin America (Honduras, Guatemala, and Peru). He frequently gives preaching workshops, mostly in Latin America, and has written a few books: Martin de Porres: A Saint of the Americas (New City Press, 2004), We Walk the Path Together: Learning from Thich Nhat Hanh and Meister Eckhart (Orbis Books, 2005), and Praxis y Predicación. His latest book was just published entitled Jesus the Prodigal Son (Orbis Books).


FR. JAMES MARTIN NOBLES, OP

Chaplain, University of Dallas

Born in Louisiana and raised in Mississippi, Fr. James Martin entered the novitiate for the Dominican Province of St. Martin de Porres in 2014. Fr. James Martin graduated from St. Joseph Seminary College, receiving his BA in Liberal Arts before discerning his call to be a Dominican friar. Fr. James Martin made his profession in August 2015. After completing his Masters of Divinity at Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis, Missouri, he was ordained in June 2021. During his first two years as a priest, Fr. James Martin served in Memphis, Tennessee, as the Parochial Vicar at St. Peter Catholic Church and as the Rector of St. Martin de Porres National Shrine & Institute. Since July of 2023, Fr. James Martin has served as Chaplain of the University of Dallas and Rector of the Church of the Incarnation.

Fr. Francis Orozco, O.P.

Master of Novices

A native of Oklahoma, Fr. Francis entered the novitiate of the Dominican Province of St. Martin de Porres in 2009 after working in the insurance industry for three years. Fr. Francis attended Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI, where he studied Philosophy and Spanish and minored in Latin. Fr. Francis professed solemn vows in 2013 and was ordained a priest in June 2015. His first three years as a priest, he served as the Parochial Vicar of St. Elizabeth University Parish in Lubbock, TX, and as Chaplain to Raider Catholic, the Catholic Student Center at Texas Tech University. Fr. Francis served as the Director of Vocations from July 2018 to July 2021 and is currently Master of Novices.
