THE NOVITIATE

Every August the Priory welcomes a new novitiate class of those considering religious life and priesthood in the Dominican Order.  Our novitiate is part of the community at Saint Albert the Great Priory. Men wishing to enter the Dominican Order spend their first year of discernment with us. The novitiate year is dedicated to living Dominican life in a focused way. During the novitiate year, the novice comes to a better understanding of vowed Dominican life through:

  • Experiencing communal and personal prayer

  • Spending quiet time in reflection and study

  • Participating in daily Mass

  • Living community life

  • Ministering in the local community

  • Studying Dominican history, our constitutions, the vows, spirituality, etc.

Br. Carlos Salas

Carlos Salas was born & raised in Cd. Juarez, Mexico. He went to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, to obtain bachelor's degree in Philosophy. During that time, he was involved at Raider Catholic Center & the Parish of St. Elizabeth both in liturgical & youth retreat ministry. It was there that he met the Dominican Friars who helped him along the way of discernment towards God's call to religious life & priesthood. The Dominican friars serving the university inspired him to enter the Order because of their lives of study, prayer, & contemplation for the preaching of the Gospel. As a Dominican, he hopes to strengthen his relationship with Christ to share this with others around him.

During his free time (when available!) he enjoys watching soccer; his favorite soccer team in Chivas (Liga MX). He enjoys watching informative videos like those in the YouTube channels Vsause & World Science Festival. Real Mexican tacos are always welcomed! And he likes (almost!) everything Microsoft. But on top of all of that, he loves Jesus, serving at the altar, & discussing with others to learn from them about Christ & His Church.
